Rev.
Alan Shoumaker, Minister of Music
alan@jeffersonbaptist.org
Born in Inglewood, California in 1959, Alan received his Bachelor of
Church Music degree from East Texas Baptist University in Marshall,
Texas and Master of Church Music degree from New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary. Alan has studied on the doctoral level at
Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, and at the Institute
for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, FL.
Dr. W. A. Criswell once dubbed Alan –“the Asaph Singer” and wrote a
prophetic note in Alan’s Bible, citing the familiar passage – “Call
to me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty
things which you know not of.” (Jer. 33:3) What a treasure. Since
that time, Alan has been privileged to share the platform with some
of the greatest leaders of our time, such as Dr. Paige Patterson,
Dr. Richard Land, Dr. Jimmy Draper, Dr. John Morgan, Judge Paul
Pressler, and Dr. Jim Richards. Alan has served as Minister of Music
at Jefferson Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, since 1993.
Worship services are broadcast live on television in Baton Rouge,
Lafayette and surrounding areas each Sunday morning, with repeat
broadcasts throughout the week.
Alan has been a worship leader for evangelism conferences and the
Louisiana Baptist Convention annual meetings with the Chancel Choir
and Orchestra of Jefferson Baptist Church receiving unprecedented
standing ovations. Alan is the producer and executive director of
the Twin Living Christmas Trees, which is often referred to by local
media as “a Baton Rouge Tradition.” This annual sold-out production
has been seen by more than 55,000 people, resulting in over 1,000
salvation decisions.
Alan has been an adjunct instructor of music for New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary since 1996, teaching a wide variety of classes
including music administration, worship leadership, conducting,
voice, music fundamentals and hymnology.
Alan has been married to his high school sweetheart, Kim Cathey
Shoumaker, since 1981. Kim and Alan have three adult children:
Lindsay, Mitchell and Laura Beth; they have one teenage son,
Benjamin. Lindsay and her husband, Kyle Silvio, are expecting their
first child, a baby boy, at the end of May. Kim has a degree in
Medical Records Administration from Louisiana Tech University in
Ruston, LA. |
