Are you a believer?

"I am a believer."
Most likely, this statement is true of you. It accurately describes anyone who believes something. It describes you if you believe --for example-- that the earth is round, or two plus two equals four. It also describes you if you believe the earth is flat, or two plus two equals five. What you believe is not relevant to whether or not you are a believer. Even if what you believe is not true, you are still a believer.

In one sense, the statement "I am a believer" is true of almost everyone. All people who are capable of thinking believe something. Even those who say they don't believe anything believe they are stating the truth. So they too are believers.

In another sense, however, this statement is true of relatively few people - only a minority of the world's population. It describes those who believe in Jesus Christ. This kind of belief refers to more than what a person thinks about Jesus. It refers to those who are so certain about Jesus Christ and who He is (God)-- that they commit themselves to Him. Thus "believer" describes one who is a Christian.

You can become a believer in this last sense of the word by taking these simple steps:

  • Acknowledge that you are a sinner by nature and by choice.
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

  • Realize that you cannot save yourself.
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the free gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:9)

  • Understand that Jesus loves you and that He died for you on the cross.
But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

  • Repent of your sin.
Repent and be converted that your sins may be blotted out. (Acts 3:19)

  • Place your faith in Jesus Christ.
For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the free gift of God: (Ephesians 2:8)

  • Ask the Lord to save you.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and will believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:9-10,13)

If you have done this, you are a Christian! You are a believer!

If you've made a decision to trust Christ as your Savior, we would like to hear from you and to pray for you. Please contact us and let us know your decision. We can also help you understand what you need to do next.

Several steps need to follow this conversion experience. They include:

  • Joining a New Testament, Bible-believing church

  • Being baptized, by which you publicly acknowledge your belief in Jesus Christ

  • Growing your relationship with Jesus Christ and helping others begin to grow in their relationship to Him

We would be honored to pray with you about your decision or assist you in learning how to take these steps. Click here to contact us.
